Our goal is to create an atmosphere that is inviting for both clients and employees. To avoid the typical mundane work environment, we are developing a form that will be stimulating in simple and subtle ways, by creating an architectural language that invites thought, without drawing too much attention to the physically built object.
Low Profile
The initial idea is to create a low, horizontal massing that will allow for maximization of views and the weaving of light, air and earth throughout the building. By configuring the building as two 8,000 SF floor plates we avoid having users becoming disconnected from the ground plane. This also allows for a more horizontal expression that gives the building an approachable feeling upon arrival.
Horizontal Datum
The massing is further refined by delineating the 1st and 2nd floors using material pallets that have defined and unique characteristics above and below this datum. The 1st floor is warm and grounded. The 2nd floor is light and airy.
Split & Shifts
This delineation above and below is further strengthened through a series of spatial shifts. The 1st floor volume is split at its center, creating two equal units that are shifted in order to maximize and enhance the interior and exterior spatial qualities inherent in the site. These shifts simultaneously create a location for the desired interior courtyard. By carving out the center of the 2nd floor, the courtyard becomes the formal locking mechanism that reconnects the floors. The culmination of these formal movements results in an open and flexible office shell, allowing multiple access points
