Philosophy

At MODAMERICAN DESIGN we are passionate about the investigation of space and form and how it affects us not only as individuals but as a collective. We believe that architecture is a vessel of expression for our clients’ needs and wants.
Our design process rigorously pursues the creation of  experientially rich, contextually thoughtful and functionally sound spaces. Through these pursuits, design has the ability to enrich the cultural identity of place.

Cleveland Ohio Architect David Grootegoed

Since 2005 David has had the opportunity to lead and contribute to projects in a variety of building types with a focus in performing arts, mixed use, corporate office and high end residential. This work includes projects throughout the United States as well as the Middle East and Asia for clients such as Capital One, Foundation for the Carolina’s, and Hines Development among others. The varied typologies, sizes, locations, budgets, and construction methods of his project experiences have provided him with a thorough understanding of what it means to create quality architecture in diverse sets of constraints. Parallel to this professional experience, David is constantly exploring different art forms and how they influence architecture. Through several mediums including photography, drawing, and sculpture/furniture design, David has been able to explore different aspects of light, form, and material and how they drive architecture. These explorations have a heavy influence on how he approaches architecture. David has had the opportunity to exhibit several works in collaborative shows in Brooklyn, New York and Richmond, Virginia.
